Governor and Commander-in Chief of the Colony of Hongkong and its Dependencies and Vice-Admiral of the same.

This is to Certify that

(whose photograph is hereunto annexed) is a British Subject, he having been resident in the New Territories of this Colony (as defined in the Extension of Laws Ordinance 1900) at the time of the cession of the said New Territories to Great Britain, and having theretofore been a Chinese subject.

NOTE: This Certificate does not afford protection to the said

while in China unless he has registered his name at the nearest British Consulate and that protection will be limited to events subsequent to such registration nor

does it free the said

whilst in Foreign countries, from compliance with the provisions of the Treaties between Great Britain and the Country wherein the said
